Michael Brooks, 19-year-old former Preston College student, has been missing for 13 days.
He was last seen leaving his flat with a friend on Lawson Street at 1:05am on Sunday 14 January.
Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Post, Michael’s mother, Joanne Brooks, 37, said ‘she believes her son’s love of nature led him to go to Avenham Park as he enjoys stargazing.’
“Michael loved anything to do with nature and especially the stars. He told his friends he was going Avenham Park to look at the stars.
“This is all really out of character for him. He always tells us where he is, he’s always really open with me. I just don’t get this at all, nothing about this makes sense to me.”
Michael is described as a white male, with a slim build, dark hair and is around 5ft 7. He speaks with a Liverpool accent and was last seen wearing a black hooded top with camouflage pattern and black skinny jeans.
A search led by the North West Police Marine Unit and the Coastguard have been carried out in the Riverside, Avenham and Fishergate Hill area.
CCTV footage captured the last confirmed sighting of Michael on Glover’s Court around 1:20am.
Police are urging anyone with information to contact the police on 101 with a quoting reference 0641.
