FC Basel vs Man City preview
Basel are the underdogs going into this one, but they have a fantastic record against English sides, and beat City’s arch rivals United 1-0 at home in the group stages.
City have scored most goals in Europe’s top five leagues (79) and will be aiming for an away win.
Dimitri Oberlin is Basel’s top scorer in Europe with four goals this season and will be looking to exploit City at the back with his pace and power. Michael Lang also offers a lot going forward from right-back. He scored the winner late on against United.
The quadruple is still on for the Sky Blues and the Champions League will be the top priority on Guardiola’s agenda.
Kevin De Bruyne has been talked about as a contender for this year’s Ballon d’Or and City coach Pep Guardiola said: “To be a contender for the Ballon D’Or, you have to win [the Champions League], and be there in the latter stages,”
The Belgian has arguably been the best player in the Premier League this season with the most assists (14).
After scoring four at the weekend against Leicester, Sergio Aguero will be confident of bagging against the Swiss side. Leroy Sane is set to travel to Switzerland. Porto vs Liverpool preview
Porto are unbeaten this season in the league after 21 games and will be looking to overcome Liverpool and reach the last eight for the first time since 2015.
Liverpool have scored the most away goals (34) in Europe’s top five leagues this term and will fancy grabbing a win at the Estadio do Dragao.
Mohammed Salah has scored 22 goals in the Premier League, one behind leading goalscorer Harry Kane. He has been a shining star in Europe, performing brilliantly alongside Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in Liverpool’s formidable front three.
Moussa Marega has scored 16 goals for The Dragons this season and will be looking to give them that extra bite against The Reds. Liverpool have struggled defensively this season and are counting on the addition of Virgil Van Dijk to sure things up at the back and propel them into the last eight in the Champions League.
Liverpool are undefeated in the Champions League and will look for at least a score draw in Portugal and win the tie at Anfield.
