Preston City Council recently unveiled a memorial plaque for Private James Towers at the Cenotaph on the flag market.

The Broughton Solider, who was the inspiration behind the James Towers Way bypass, received the highest military award for gallantry during the First World War.

Towers led trapped soldiers back towards safety in France 1918.

Volunteers are researching the fallen soldiers of WWI, which is even more significant due to the pending anniversary of WWI.
