Lee Ashforth insists his side must recreate their recent away form if they are to progress in the Buildbase FA Trophy this weekend.

Clitheroe FC are set to host Northern Premier League Division One side Pontefract Collieries in the Preliminary Round of the competition..

Clitheroe are unbeaten in five away games spanning back to early September, but the Yorkshire born manager admits they have to start gaining points at home.

“We spoke about home form to the players before Saturday’s league game at home, the lads have only won three times on our own turf in 2018.”

Ashforth’s side almost picked up a point at home to Trafford in the league, but were denied conceding in the 86th minute, missing out on their first point at home this season, losing 2-1.

Since taking over on September 20, Ashforth guided The Blues to five games unbeaten before this weekend, steering the club away from the relegation zone and picking up a vital second away-win in the League against Glossop North End.

“We want to kick-start momentum at home and get the Shawbridge crowd three points every game. It’s about taking it one game at a time albeit home or away, we’ve been lucky enough to get a home draw and we must do everything we can to get a win,” he added.

Last season’s Challenge Trophy runners-up will be looking to provide another memorable season for their fans with another cup-run, a potential game at Wembley Stadium awaiting the finalists.

The tie falls on Non-League Day and the manager is hoping to repay the bumper-crowd who make the journey with a first win at home.

Opponents, Pontefract Collieries, head into the game drawing all three of their previous games, but will be hoping Vaughan Redford can maintain his goal scoring form and spearhead the teams charge into the First Round Qualifying stage.
