Confusion over Reeds Rains ‘closures’

Estate agency staff at branches of Reeds Rains in Preston are facing an uncertain future amid a mass closure across the country.

The firm’s branches in Penwortham and Fulwood were closed on Thursday – two days after staff were told they were part of Reeds Rains’ £15m restructure, according to a staff member at the Preston branch.

Both branches, on Garstang Road and Liverpool Road, had been de-branded by Thursday and signs were posted in the windows directing customers to the Preston branch.

A staff member from the Preston branch confirmed they were notified last Tuesday of the changes like the rest of the company, but admitted: “we’ve only been given the information that we need to know”, stating that they had not been told how many Lancashire branches were to be closed.

Today a spokeswoman for Reeds Rains said she could not confirm which Lancashire branches were affected at this stage or how many jobs were at risk.

It has already been confirmed branches in Wales and the North East are among those to have closed.

Parent company LSL revealed last week it was shutting down 43 branches of Reeds Rains and Your Move, with further branches being merged or sold off to other franchisees, reducing the total number of branches from 308 to 144.

The company is spending £15 million on the restructuring process, and stated it is “to remain cautious on the market outlook for 2019 given the continued uncertainty over the UK and global political environment and the potential impact on UK consumer confidence”.

A spokeswoman from Reeds Rains said: “we are still not yet in a position to provide details of the branch closures in Lancashire”.
