Five years on from the last Players Championship in Preston, the tournament returns with the top 16 players in the world landing in the North West.
Ivan Hirschowitz, World Snooker’s Press Officer, is glad to be back. He said: “It’s a fantastic location for snooker. All snooker fans around the world will think of the Guild Hall as being synonymous with big snooker events.”
The tournament begins at 8pm tonight, with defending champion Ronnie O’Sullivan looking to retain his crown against Barry Hawkins.
Mark Allen will face Stephen Maguire in tonight’s other fixture, with a grand prize of £125,000 awaiting the winner of Sunday’s final.
The Players Championship has been held in Llandudno, Manchester and Bangkok in the last four years.
