Irene Reid began working as a lollipop lady in 1969 and today marks her 50 year anniversary helping guide the children of Longridge CE Primary School across the road.
“I joke that it was all cobbles and horse drawn carriages when I first started.” Irene said when asked how her job has changed over the years. “The only real change is the traffic.”
The mother of four and grandmother of six was recognised in 2012 with an MBE for her services to road safety.
Irene was presented with a bouquet of flowers as well as a golden lollipop sign to commemorate the special occasion.
They were given to her by Doctor Sakthi Karunanithi the director of public health at Lancashire County Council.
