A juicy domestic boxing encounter is hitting Liverpool on Saturday night, as Olympian Anthony Fowler takes on Preston’s Scott Fitzgerald.
Both fighters have a bundle of amateur pedigree both winning gold medals at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, but have are relatively inexperienced in the professional game.
Boxing commission WBA has given the fight more spice by offering the winning fighter a world ranking, as well as the WBA international strap.
Liverpool’s Fowler became professional in 2016, after competing in the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The blockbuster light middleweight contest, which is on the undercard of the clash between Liam Smith and Sam Eggington, could set up a fight against Ted Cheeseman for the British title.
The showdown has added spice, as both fighters were part of the Great Britain boxing team, and have traded insults throughout the build-up through social media.
Fitzgerald won at the O2 on the undercard of Ted Cheeseman vs Sergio Garcia in a tune up fight as he had been out of the ring, due to a hand injury.
Fowler is heavy favourite, with the bookmakers, but Scott Fitzgerald believes it would be stupid to overlook him.
