A woman’s body has been found at a nature reserve in Cumbria.

The body is believed to be a missing woman from Preston.

Brenda Wignall, 58, was last seen around 2am at her home in Preston, last Friday (11th October).

After extensive searches in the surrounding areas, Lancashire Police has confirmed officers have found a woman’s body at South Walney Nature Reserve in Barrow, at around 10:30am this morning.

The body has yet to be formally identified, but police say Mrs Wignall’s family have been informed.

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Brenda’s family and friends at this extremely sad and difficult time”

“Thank-you to everyone who took the time to share our appeals during the search.”
