Mrs Claus is taking over from her husband to bring smiles to kids’ faces this festive season.
Linda Hampton is a professional actor who is donning the famous red suit to do house visits for Lancashire’s Christmas-obsessed young ones.
Linda will visit children’s houses throughout December, telling them that she’s been sent by Santa. She will tell them a festive tale, with visits lasting for around half an hour.
Although this is the first year that she has done house visits, it’s a role she’s familiar with.
She said, “I’d played Mrs Claus before in big Lapland-style interactive theatre shows, but what prompted me to do it was that a colleague in Blackpool was holding a charity auction, and I thought I’d offer up a visit from Mrs Claus as a prize.”
Although the character may be familiar, she recognises that there is a vastly different skillset required from home visits.
“You need to be sensitive to the different needs of different children and then it becomes a very complex job. You need to make notes about the different kids and then each visit becomes a very bespoke thing.”
Despite this, Linda feels well-equipped to deal with each child’s individual needs, having taught a drama class to adults with learning difficulties in the past.
Indeed, the winner of her auction prize is gifting the visit to a little boy who’s on the autistic spectrum.
She has got several visits lining up, beginning, of course, on the first of December.
