Preston midfielder Daniel Johnson presents UCLan’s Matthew Hesketh award

Daniel Johnson speaks to UCLan's journalism students

Preston North End midfielder Daniel Johnson was at UCLan to present a top award in memory of a student who tragically died in a car crash.

The annual award honours former student Matthew Hesketh, who died in 2007. He was 18.

This year, the prize went to top-performing second year student Tom Rawcliffe.

Andy Hesketh, Matthew’s father, was also in attendance to present the award.

He said: “Sport brings you together, it’s fantastic for that. I know that Matthew would have been very proud today.”

Matthew was a big Chelsea fan, with the recipient of the award spending two weeks on work experience in the summer at Stamford Bridge.

The students were also given the opportunity to take part in a press conference with the North End star.
