Sports stars from Wigan are making alternative plans as COVID-19 continues to cause events to be cancelled.

UFC fighter Mike Grundy and motorbike racer Rob Hodson were among the latest to see their diaries cleared this week.

Hodson was due to take his place in the Isle of Man TT at the end of May, alongside his dad Jim and fellow Wiganer Josh Daley.

Daley, who made his TT debut in 2016 said: “It’s the right thing to do and everyone’s health is the main priority.

“Obviously all of us TT racers are gutted it’s not going ahead but there is always next year.”

Hodson said he sympathised with organisers, who had a difficult decision to make.

Meanwhile, Grundy was due to fight Makwan Amirkhani at London’s O2 Arena this Saturday.

He explained how he is keeping fit while the seats around the octagon remain empty.

Dates for rescheduled events are yet to be confirmed as government advice is updated daily. Sports events haven’t been cancelled in such numbers since the Second World War.
