North West team of the week: Bradley Johnson, Adam Armstrong, Ben Brereton – and who else?

Championship side Blackburn Rovers put four past Derby County, Morecambe recorded another away victory in League 2 and Wigan got their first win in League 1 away to promotion favourites Portsmouth.

Elsewhere, Salford and Barrow could only draw this week in League 2 whilst Oldham suffered a home defeat to Crawley Town.

But let’s see who made the North West team of the week.

Goalkeeper – T. Kaminski

New Blackburn goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski made some crucial saves to deny Derby County any chance of comeback at the weekend. The Belgian stopper made five key saves against the Rams and recorded his second clean sheet of the season.

Defenders – J. Turnbull, C. Piergianni, T. James

Jordan Turnbull made numerous blocks at the weekend to deny Forest Green the three points. He has now kept back-to-back clean sheets in the league for the Ammies this term.

Although Oldham suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Crawley Town, Carl Piergianni made sure to keep his side in the game with some great defensive work. The 28-year-old made eight clearances, four interceptions and two tackles.

An outstanding freekick by Tom James at the weekend helped Wigan secure their first league win of the season.

Midfielders – C.M. Gomes A. Phillips, B. Johnson, M. Jones, L. Evans

Carlos Mendes Gomes scored his first goal of the season for Morecambe against Southend United. He helped the Shrimps record their second away win of the season.

Adam Phillips also helped Morecambe gain the three points on the weekend by scoring his second goal of the campaign.

Bradley Johnson’s two goals against Derby County helped Blackburn Rovers get a well-deserved win away from home. Both goals came from outside the box!

Is there a better way to score your first goal for Barrow? Mike Jones’ thunderous strike helped his new side to a point at home to Colchester United.

Another important goal at the weekend was scored by Lee Evans. The 26-year-old helped the Latics get a surprising result against promotion favourites Portsmouth.

Strikers – A. Armstrong, B. Brereton

Adam Armstrong continues his scoring form into the new term. The Newcastle-born striker scored his fifth goal of the season against the Rams.

It could’ve been more than four at the weekend for Blackburn Rovers as Ben Brereton was a deadly threat throughout the game.
