Popular Preston-based retailer ‘Hollywood Exports’ has opened its second store in Clitheroe despite Covid.

The opening shares the same day that non-essential retail is allowed to re-open according to the government’s ‘Roadmap out of lockdown’.

But how has this small Preston business been able to expand during the pandemic?

39-year-old, Matt Taylor, business owner of Hollywood Exports said: “During the pandemic the shops are shut, it’s been really tough.

“The grant money hasn’t really covered even the rent, so we’ve had to push the online sales on Depop, ASOS, and that’s been doing really well.

“We kept going with our head above water online.”

Matt said him and others in the business had to decide whether to keep imported stock in storage which would be “costly”, or to stock another retailer which is what they ended up doing.

Prior to the first lockdown in 2020, Matt had another shop in Clitheroe for ten years which he had to close so he could have more spare time after his child’s birth.

Now, Matt’s been able to get back on his feet and push and grow his business into what it is today.

He expressed that “In these times of limited opportunity, there’s actually a lot of opportunity.”
