Blackpool Transport Encourage Reading in Children with Free Books on Bus Journeys.

Free copies of “Tales from The Arabian Nights” book by Andrew Lang can be picked up by bus passengers in Blackpool, with the pantomime Aladdin commencing this Friday in Blackpool.

The ‘Books on Buses’ campaign is designed to encourage Lancashire youngsters to enjoy reading classic books.

Passengers on selected routes will have the opportunity to pick up one of 100 free books throughout December.

The book features the magical tale of Aladdin, which is this year’s Pantomime at Blackpool’s Grand Theatre, running from 1st December until New Years Day.

The cast of the ‘Aladdin’ pantomime, kickstarted the campaign by riding on a Blackpool Transport bus with the free books.

Tom Lister from Emmerdale and Steve Royle, Britain’s Got Talent finalist are both performing in the pantomime, and locals gathered on Friday morning to catch a sight of the local celebrities riding on the bus.

Amy Perry, pantomime actress starring in Aladdin said: “It’s been a really lovely day for a lovely reason, we’ve got to explore Blackpool all together in our costumes.

“Especially around Christmas, doing something that is so based in the community, and it’s a lot of these young people’s experiences with theatre and that is so magical”.

The partnership between Blackpool Transport and Blackpool Grand Theatre will continue to boost literacy across the resort on the run up to Christmas.
