Table Tennis match report- UCLan 11-6 Liverpool ‘2’

UCLan Table Tennis got their season off to a fantastic start with a comprehensive victory over Liverpool (2).

UCLan Coach Dan O’Connell and Sanskar Dubey looked particularly impressive over the first couple of rounds winning both their games comfortably against the Liverpool number 3 and 4.

However, Liverpool number 1 and 2 Michael Parker and Thomas Peake also won their opening two matches despite a thrilling 5 set encounter between Japanese exchange student Kyosuke Nakawo and Thomas Peake, the UCLan number 3 just missing out.

This meant at the halfway stage on Wednesday at Sir Tom Finney sports centre in the singles it was all square at 4-4.

The match turned in the favour of UCLan in the 3rd round with Nakawo winning his first game of the match over Jeffrey Cheng (Liverpool number four).

But the highlight was Sanskar’s 3-0 win in sets over Michael Parker who had looked formidable up until this point.

As a result of these wins UCLan had a 7-5 lead going into the final round of singles.

Dan O’Connell won his final match to make it 4 out of 4 for him on the day, Nakawo won against his opposite number and Jack Cairns finished with a win.

This sealed victory for UCLan going into the doubles match which UCLan were also able to secure to take an 11-6 win.
