St George’s Church launches new hot meal initiative

A new initiative has been launched in Preston which offers a free hot meal every weekend.

George’s Kitchen was launched by St George’s Church and it offers a free meal and a warm space between five and seven o’clock each Saturday evening.

It is open to everyone but is aimed at those who are rough sleepers or who don’t have access to food.

Sam Walmsley, a representative of St George’s, said: “This offering is important throughout the year as there are many people who simply do not have the means to provide for these basic necessities of life.”

The scheme has been launched after identifying a ‘lack of provision’ within Preston City Centre for those who need it.

After first session was a success, Sam assured it will be repeated in the coming weeks.

They said: “Our launch was last Saturday, and we welcomed seven people for a meal, which was wonderful.

“The appreciation of those who visited was abundantly clear and we look forward to welcoming more people as the weeks progress.”

The Parish Hall will also be open as a warm space and will provide hot drinks for all.

St Georges is keen for the public to share this initiative with anyone who may benefit during the winter.
