The eighth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup commences in South Africa on Friday (February 10) with Jon Lewis’s England side set to face West Indies on Saturday.
Lancashire Thunder duo Sophie Ecclestone and Kate Cross have been named among the travelling squad of 15 as they hope to contribute to England’s challenge for the World Cup trophy.
The women boast a 100 per cent record with eight of their nine games under Lewis coming against the Windies.
Speaking to the Cricketer ahead of the World Cup, Ecclestone said: “They’re always incredible to be a part of and the event itself will be amazing.
“I think the up-and-coming team that we have now is amazing and I can’t wait to see what we can do.”
Preparations for the tournament have been nothing short of superb with a 17-run win in a warm-up game against hosts South Africa on Monday, giving cricket enthusiasts a sense of optimism.
Champions at the inaugural edition on home soil in 2009 but trophy-less since – England will be hoping to end a 14-year wait for title success.
