The women boast a 100 per cent record with eight of their nine games under Lewis coming against the Windies.

Speaking to the Cricketer ahead of the World Cup, Ecclestone said: “They’re always incredible to be a part of and the event itself will be amazing.

“I think the up-and-coming team that we have now is amazing and I can’t wait to see what we can do.”

Preparations for the tournament have been nothing short of superb with a 17-run win in a warm-up game against hosts South Africa on Monday, giving cricket enthusiasts a sense of optimism.

Champions at the inaugural edition on home soil in 2009 but trophy-less since – England will be hoping to end a 14-year wait for title success.
